President Donald Trump has fundamentally changed the leadership of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) by appointing conservative analyst and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino as the new deputy director. This action marks a significant change in the top administration of the FBI since Kash Patel was recently confirmed by the Senate.
President Trump said on February 23, 2025, Dan Bongino will be appointed the Deputy Director of the FBI. Having been a Secret Service agent from 1999 to 2011 and a New York City Police Department officer from 1995 to 1999, Bongino, 50 offers a varied background to the post. Under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, he served in the Presidential Protection Division of the Secret Service. Rising as a conservative media star in recent years, Bongino hosts “The Dan Bongino Show” podcast and formerly anchored “Unfiltered” on Fox News until 2023.

Given his new position, he has chosen to end his podcast in order to concentrate on his duties inside the FBI. Commending Bongino’s commitment, President Trump called him “a man of incredible love and passion for our Country.” Additionally expressing confidence in Bongino’s capacity to favorably impact the bureau’s mission were Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel.

The Senate approved Kash Patel as the FBI Director on February 20, 2025, with a tight 51-49 vote before Bongino was hired. Long-time Trump loyalist Patel has held positions on the National Security Council and as Chief of Staff to the Acting Secretary of Defense among other duties. Reactions to his confirmation have been divided; supporters praise his will to overhaul the FBI, while detractors voice worries about possible political bias.

Patel’s and Bongino’s appointments emphasize conventional crime-fighting responsibilities and a possible reorganization of the bureau’s activities, indicating a strategic change in the FBI’s leadership. Both heads have been outspoken about their aims to rebuild public confidence in the agency’s activities and to correct supposed political biases inside it.
Dan Bongino, Deputy Director, will supervise the daily operations of the FBI and emphasise his vast law enforcement background in the bureau’s actions. These leadership transitions coincide with an FBI confronting difficult national security issues and internal reforms period. Policies meant to improve the bureau’s impartiality and efficiency in upholding the law should be followed by the new leadership team.
